Introducing our new Creative Producer...

iceandfire are pleased to welcome Sara Doctors, in the newly-created role of Creative Producer.

Sara is a producer, writer, director and designer, working to critical acclaim in London, New York and on the festival circuit. She has produced and collaborated with The Old Vic Theatre, The 24 Hour Play Company, LIFT, Scarabeus and many others, and spent the last two years creating Molten Festival in East London. Sara graduated from Cambridge University in 2004 and is Director of Wicked Theatre. We are thrilled to have her on board.

Sara Masters (yes, we know this will get confusing!), co-Artistic Director of iceandfire, will be on maternity leave from next week. We wish her good luck and look forward to having her back with us soon!

Everyone Has the Right Readings

We can confirm that our script submission scheme with Amnesty International, Everyone Has the Right, will have its first series of rehearsed readings performed at Amnesty's Human Rights Action Centre in Shoreditch in October and November this year.

Scripts are still being accepted on a rolling basis, and there is no deadline for the scheme, although if you would like your script to be considered for this first series of performances then you must have it in to us by Friday 9th July.

More details in the next newsletter about the first exciting series of plays!

Production

We recently complete a development period at the National Theatre Studio for our new production On the Record. Thanks to all those who came along and provided feedback and comments.

You can read Christine and Noah's blog about the workshop to find out more.

There will be more news about On the Record soon...!

Education

We are collaborating with Alex Kaye (who managed the tour of Bind last year) and Story Stew on a new Education project, Ancient Stories, New Voices. This project, which is at an early stage, will explore folk tales, myths and stories from different cultures, engaging students in human rights themes which will form the catalyst for the creation of new stories devised by the students.

Using a combination of drama, oral storytelling, making with materials and written work, these weekly workshops will explore different learning strategies, while developing pupils' confidence and ability in literacy.

Participation

Our Participation project Children Together has been re-funded as part of Merton Council’s Positive Activities Fund. This time we are working with young people who are newly arrived or currently seeking asylum in collaboration with the South London Refugee Assocation Youth Club.

We will be running informal creative activities sessions for 13 – 19 year olds to explore their identity using movement, dance, drama, sound and film. The young people decide and our Children Together Artists respond to them using the model we created for the previous family play version of this project, delivered at Merton Asylum Welcome.
